Palin is the Pick

According to Fox News Sarah Palin of Alaska is the pick. She is backstage in Dayton. Apparently John McCain has been listening too much to Bill Kristol.

Bad pick for a few reasons.

Right now there is a stink coming from the Republican Party in Alaska with the investigations of Ted Stevens and Don Young. You never know where that investigation will lead and at the bare minimum the democrats will tie her name to it.

Secondly, what does she bring? Hillary supporters aren't going to vote for McCain just because of Palin. What expertise does she bring that McCain lacks? None I am aware of.

It smacks of pandering.

Update: Saw the rerun of her speech on CSpan. She is impressive. My problem with the pick is not with her. I agree with more of her positions than I do McCain's. My concerns are the problems in Alaska and the perception of pandering.

She can talk the talk. Let's see if she can walk the walk.

I don't know.

I think it is a much better pick than Romney or Pawlenty.

I would have liked to see Kasich, but Palin may surprise you.

"They" say she is good in debates. We'll see....

Took the wind out of the Demo Convention bump, though....

I'll admit, it does have a feel of pandering, but she's a great pick. She's not tied to the corruption, she's pushed the fight against it. She's an NRA life member and hunter. She's anti-abortion and against gay marriage. And she has "governor" experience, which McCain lacks, being governor, a former mayor, and having run a couple of businesses.

This choice also opens the door for Democrats to play the "oil card," given where Ms. Palin is from.

By the way, Buckblog -- does this change your mind about Dayton having a purpose for existing? :-->
